Enlarged Prostate

Acupuncture for Enlarged Prostate

Frequent urination is a common problem in men over forty. Often, the cause of this frequency, as well as the feeling of urgency and a weakened stream or dribbling, is BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). BPH is the most common prostate concern, affecting about 50% of men over 60. Since the prostate gland, which surrounds the urethra, grows throughout a man’s life, it is usually only a matter of time until it begins to clamp down on the urethra and restrict flow. This phenomenon eventually causes the bladder to become irritable.

It is estimated that half of all men have BPH in their 50’s and as many as 90% of men will feel the discomfort as they reach their 70’s . BPH is called a silent disease because it doesn’t always cause pain, men commonly don’t feel its progression and men won’t willingly talk about it even to close friends.

What you may not know, however, is how effective acupuncture can be to reverse this condition. Acupuncture can improve BPH dramatically by greatly reducing the frequency of urination and helping achieve normal urination. Acupuncture can eliminate those every hour or so nightly trips to the bathroom and restore the urine stream. Acupuncture can eliminate the need for the uncertain effects of drugs or surgery. It lessens the “congestion” in the lower pelvic area and improves the blood and energy flow to the prostate region.

Acupuncture helps increase circulation to the affected area thus promoting the healing and overall health of that area. Proponents of Eastern medicine believe that a vital life energy, called qi (pronounced “chee”), flows through the body along 14 primary channels known as meridians.

When qi is blocked or unbalanced, disease can result. For healing prostate enlargement – BPH, very fine acupuncture needles will be inserted into the skin to stimulate various points along the meridians that affect the prostate area. Most patients at Hamilton West Windsor Acupuncture find an acupuncture treatment session profoundly peaceful and relaxing. Have no fear because the acupuncture points on the body that heal the genitals are not on or even near the penis. These points may be on the lower stomach, arms, and ears or in the area around the ankles.

Part of being a man is caring for your health and well-being through all stages of your life. While it can sometimes be difficult to talk with your doctor or practitioner about issues such as prostate conditions, it’s important to be open and honest. After all, these concerns can have a major impact on your overall health as well as your sex life, your relationships, and your emotional health.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offer powerful tools to help you feel your best. They’ve been used for thousands of years to treat men’s health concerns and they can be safely used along with Western therapies.
